SAVIVE
is a program of the AIDS Council of SA and is founded on the
principles of peer education and community development. SAVIVE’s
primary target is the injecting community and our motto is By
Users For Users. SAVIVE recognises and acknowledges the expertise
and experience of people who inject drugs as a vital component
of the program - users are involved in the co-ordination of the
program, and the provision of services, at all levels.
SAVIVE
provides injecting equipment, information, advocacy, referrals
and support to injectors. We also provide users’ perspectives
into the development of strategies, policies and services that
affect people who inject drugs and provide education to the wider
community.
Resources
- Veintenance (in
collaboration with Drug and Alcohol Services Council): A small
sized booklet about caring for veins and injection sites. Veintenance
is a comprehensive resource covering a range of vein-care related
issues.
- Vein
Care (in collaboration with Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol
Council): Less ‘text heavy’ than Veintenance, it is a foldout
resource about vein care, reducing vein damage and finding
veins. Vein Care is aimed at local Indigenous injectors and
includes some commonly used words in one of the Indigenous
languages.
- Pure-S:
The magazine of the SA injecting community, produced by SAVIVE,
comes out about 2-3 times a year. Look out for the new edition
of Pure-S (winter 2004) in early June.
