SERVICE OFFICER 

Position: PAMS Service Officer
Harm Reduction Victoria, (HRVic) is seeking a non-judgemental person with excellent
communication skills to join our PAMS team
.


Please note, this is a largely client-facing role. The position is a 0.6 effective full-time, (EFT), 3 days
per week, SCHADS award level 4. The position is available initially for a 12-month period with the
possibility of continuation.


The Pharmacotherapy Advocacy Mediation and Support (PAMS) service is a state-wide, telephone based service that provides mediation, support, advocacy, referral, and information for those
involved with treatment for opioid dependence, (methadone and buprenorphine).


HRVic is a community based, membership driven organisation, with a mission to advance the health
and human rights of people who use illicit drugs and those on pharmacotherapy.

We are looking for someone to assist us in a part-time Office Administration role at least three days

a week until August 31, 2021. 

This short-term role may be extended subject to a review of our organisational needs. 

Harm Reduction Victoria Background 

Harm Reduction Victoria is a peer-based organisation representing people who use and/or inject drugs illicitly.

We work to reduce stigma & discrimination against people who use drugs and we strongly encourage people with a lived experience of illicit drug use – current or recent included – to apply.

DRUG SAFETY WORKER- Youth Projects

Is this you?

You’re passionate about working with at-risk and vulnerable people with AOD concerns. You have a Certificate IV AOD and experience working within high quality, responsive Needle Syringe Program (NSP) services. Due to your career history, you have a strong understanding and knowledge of blood borne virus prevention strategies. You know the importance of providing effective support to service users and why this is a critical factor in implementing the principles of harm minimisation.

You may not be the captain of this team (…yet), but when we are in thick of it, we play off each-other’s strengths and have each-others back #1YP

You know not every day will be the same, you can switch from undertaking a supervision session, to working in NSP outreach in the blink of an eye. Changing lives is your passion but you still embrace rolling up your sleeves and mucking in to get the job done.

A bit about the role:

We have a range of casual roles available! You will be working within our Harm Reduction and Outreach Team and will usually be based out of our HQ in Glenroy but your outreach will spread across Melbourne’s Northwest. Our shifts will include nights and weekends.

 

Here are some of things you could expect to be doing in your first month:

  • Provide high quality needle availability and disposal services to service users

  • Undertake shifts in our fixed sites as well as outreach

  • Provide education, resources, referral, safer using and disposal, and safer sex and health information as requested by service users

  • Support the team in maintaining stock, preparation and completing inventory checks.

  • Participating in team meetings, site meetings and supervision sessions.

  • Data Entry … yes, we all have to do it…

  • Engaging service users to participate in NSP surveys to obtain client feedback/drug trends

  • Participating in handovers and completing handover documentation for outreach shifts

  • Undertaking professional develop to grow within your professional self.

We are an independent, registered charity providing front line support to young people and individuals experiencing disadvantage, unemployment, homelessness, alcohol and other drug issues. We also help those looking to re-engage with learning and employment. Last year our highly skilled multi-disciplinary team, helped 15,288 people through face-to-face contacts at The Living Room, 1,243 young people through our employment and training programs and dispensed over 1.3 million safe injecting kits through our needle exchange program.
